Keepers: Voices of Secular Recovery.
Compiled
and with an introduction by Martin Nicolaus
Keepers
is a selection of more than 120 short items culled from among the best
postings by members of the LifeRing email list during 1996 - 1999. These are messages
of support, personal reflections and insights, anecdotes, helpful ideas that
worked for their authors, poems, jokes, and other motivational,
inspirational writings. Includes the special section:
Holiday
Survival Guide.
Keepers
is a celebration of life free of drinking and drugging. To the person still
mired in chemical dependency, abstinence may seem like a drab, joyless
project. Not so, these voices testify. Sobriety is a liberation; it is a
rejuvenation of the senses and the mental powers, a release of the inner
potential for growth. Drinking and drugging, seen in the rear view mirror,
were a painful hammering at the body's pleasure system. Not only can you
still rock and roll sober, you can rock and roll better, and remember it
afterward.
Keepers
is a rich exchange of personal experiences and insights, a lending and
borrowing of tools for sobriety. Guilt, shame and self-flagellation are
scarce here, but there's a great abundance of humor, empathy, and support
for the struggling.
