Alan Ogborne, Ph.D.

Short Professional profile for Dr. Alan C. Ogborne

Alan has a PhD in social psychology from the London School of Economics and was for many years a senior scientist with Ontario's Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Since retiring from the Centre he formed his own consulting group (Alan Ogborne and Associates) and has been a consultant to a variety of large and small agencies including the World Health Organization, the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse and Health Canada and the Addiction Research Centre of Correctional Services Canada. He has authored or co-authored over 100 publications in professional journals and written many reports for governments and other agencies.

Alan has been a guest speaker at many international conferences including conferences held in Japan, Egypt and Australia. He has also consulted with government agencies in Bermuda and Saudi Arabia.

Alan has undertaken a wide range of research and evaluation projects both at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and in private practice. He also taught courses in addiction and program evaluation at the University of Western Ontario and to various community groups in Canada and other countries.

·        Development of workbooks and guidelines on program evaluation for the World Health Organization (WHO)

·        Customized course on program evaluation for health and social service professionals in Colombia.

·        Site visits and follow-up telephone consultations with participants from five countries in an evaluation training project sponsored by WHO

·        Design and analysis of two surveys involving special addiction treatment services across Canada

·        Review of harm reduction and injection drug use in Canada and five other countries

·        Evaluation of an online learning environment and other initiatives concerning the prevention of alcohol-related fetal damage using email and telephone surveys

·        Review of the literature on cessation of injection drug use

·        Assistance to a Federal Task Force on the establishment of supervised injection rooms

·        Survey and analysis of directories of addiction services in all provinces and the territories

·        Review of literature on addiction treatment and the development of best practice statements

·        Review of literature and the development of best practices in treatment and rehabilitation for DWI offenders
