Lifering Best Housing Bet -- the
YMCA. The Y has been recently renovated and the hotel may be spartan
but the price of $39 for a single can't be beat. Located
only 2 blocks from Berkeley BART at the intersection of Allston
Way and Milvia, the Y is right in the center of theaters (live and
movie), restaurants, public transportation (BART and bus), and 4
blocks from the conference location. The bathroom is down the
hall, no TV and probably no phone. The lobby has a kitchenette
for cooking and an Internet lounge. Guests have access to
excellent exercise facilities. Parking is 1 block away at $12 for
24 hours (better yet, don't bring a car). 510-848-6800, no web

New York Times and sit outside watching the locals do the same.

remembered as the home of the Black Panthers and the origin of
the Free Speech movement but both towns have long since moved
on. We urge you to sample our towns when you come to the
Congress. --
