Hotels in the downtown area (Adam's Mark, Comfort Inn, and Warwick) are accessible by bus routes, including the 15 and 15L routes as well as others.  The bus stop for the Comfort Inn is on 17th Street across the street from the hotel.
 
I have stayed at the Comfort Inn and it has nice comfortable rooms and good security.
 
One consideration is proximity to restaurants, shopping, movies, etc.  The downtown hotels have more to do close by and are accessible to the congress location by bus.

Westword named the Comfort Inn Downtown the Best Hotel Bargain in Denver in its 2007 Best of Denver Issue.

In case anyone still needs hotel accommodation in Denver, I found the La Quinta Inn / Denver Central (3500 Park Ave. West) for $74/night (with AAA discount $66.60).
 
Distance to our congress venue at 1400 Lafayette:  2.55 miles or 8 minutes as per mapquest.
