Sober Circle 2002

The Delegates

No beginning, no end
just a circle of sober ones
gathered side by side
focused on a shared center
made of hope, hard work,
commitment to cause,
wanting only to see the circle grow
to make room for more and more
who yearn to live sober and sane
stretching and reaching
beyond themselves
beyond fears
beyond the walls
to where there is
limitless possibility

Banquet 2002

On one side of the wall
the booze flowed freely
St. Pats revelers caught
in drink induced euphoria
partied on

On the other side, another group
a tad quieter, perhaps
together in unaltered reality
seeing, connecting, touching
partied on

Making music, reading poems,
a voice soars out over all
stopping the passersby in the lobby
sharing food and innocent drink
making permanent, retrievable memories
