Sobriety’s Lament

A lament to sobriety
Would that you were here with me today
I raise my ear toward the sky
To hear your war cry
But you’ve gone
To that elusive place
I know you’ll return some day
And I pray when you do you’ll stay!
Until then I battle alone
Tilted, twisted
Far from home…
Deformed and conflicted
Destined to roam
Always wishing, hoping
You could live at my home
Yes! I heard you knocking
My intentional ignorance feigned
It wasn’t you at all
But some villain at play
Harrumph!
You didn’t fool me at all
I was too prepared for that!
Alas, I missed your call!
Well, he’ll be back
I speciously think
Yes! I smugly dwell
Like the many, now extinct
